The idea behind this card — Compassion, reversed

Kristin Neff's research shows self-compassion predicts better outcomes after loss than self-esteem — and pet people have a shortcut to it, because they already practiced perfect patience daily: with accidents, with slowness, with old age, with fear. You never demanded they grieve efficiently or heal on schedule. That standard — the one you held effortlessly for them — is the correct one for you now. They would insist. Be as patient with yourself as you were with them.
