Lesson 23 of LII · the FEEL course
The idea behind this card — Mercy, homeward

If 'I should have' is on a loop: the mercy you've been told to give others was always meant for you too.

FEEL — The honest heart before the mystery — lament, doubt, awe, mercy

people sat with this card this month

The practice

write the 'I should have' sentence that loops loudest. Under it, write what you actually knew at the time — only that. Then say it with the direction reversed: 'The mercy I'd give anyone else in this, I'm allowed to keep some for myself.'

Where this idea comes from

  • Hindsight bias research; mercy and compassion teachings across traditions
